Disclosing Unexpected Adverse OutcomesPatients not only expect to be told the truth by their physician, but also to be protected from harm. When the latter is not possible, the former is required. This session will focus on how to conduct an effective disclosure conversation following an unexpected adverse event. We address how to disclose adverse events, how to create a credible understanding of the facts, and how to manage the event through coordination and sequencing. This short course can be geared directly to physicians who need to learn disclosure skills, as well as for Risk Managers and others who may be coaching physicians through the disclosure conversation.
